LITTLE BIG MAN was significant when it was made because of its editing, which was still being explored in Hollywood at the time as a vehicle for innovative, simple storytelling.Arthur Penn's film of Thomas Berger's bestselling novel demystifies the Old West with its funny, chaotic portrayal of one man's experiences in its closing days. Jack Crabb (Dustin Hoffman), a 121-year-old Indian living in a rest home, relates his incredible life experiences. According to Crabb's somewhat fanciful tales, he was raised by the Cheyenne from the age of 10 only to be seized by whites when he was 15. He then embarks on a string of failed attempts to find a place for himself in the world. These bring him into contact with (among many others) Wild Bill Hickok, the US Cavalry, a former preacher's wife turned prostitute, his own spunky frontierswoman sister, and General George Armstrong Custer during the Battle of Little Big Horn. The result is a funny, spiritual film with a humane view of the plight of Native Americans.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseWidescreen - 16.9Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround - English Dolby Digital Stereo Surround - English Dolby Digital Mono - French

Alias El Alacran/Indio (DVD) Alias El Alacran/Indio (DVD) » Alias El Alacran/Indio (DVD)

Two classics from the Golden Age of Mexican cinema are collected together here: ALIAS EL ALACRAN and INDIO. ALIAS EL ALACRAN: After escaping to Mexico and changing his name to El Venado, Billy the Kid takes a job at a ranch where the owner is about to marry a beautiful woman named Rosa, who is being pursued by a killer named El Alacran. El Venado swears to protect her, pretending to be her lover as a smokescreen. The owner of the ranch misunderstands El Venado`s overtures toward Rosa, which leads to a fateful confrontation.Pedro Amendariz, one of the most beloved actors of the Golden Age of Mexican films, stars in EL INDIO. The greedy and power hungry owner of a hacienda routinely mistreats his workers, the majority of which are natives. One such worker, Julian, knows the location of valuable Indian relics, but refuses to tell the hacienda owner where he can find them. Enraged, the autocratic owner tries to have Julian hanged, but Felipe (Armendariz), another native, rescues him. The natives decide that this event is the last straw, and led by Felipe, start a rebellion against the hacienda owner and other men like him throughout the region. Sympathetic towards the oppressed native population of Mexico, EL INDIO is part of a tradition of socially conscious Mexican films.

Mikey and Nicky (DVD) » Mikey and Nicky (DVD)

Elaine May's tense, well-paced thriller is her third film, and one of her most innovative. Using three cameras that she sometimes left running for hours, May captured a spontaneous, real interaction between actor Peter Falk (of the TV series COLUMBO), and actor (and maverick director) John Cassavetes. Their relationship and their personalities drive this portrait of one evening in their thirty-year friendship. When Nicky calls Mikey yet again to bail him out of trouble--this time a contract on his life for money that he stole from his mob boss--Mikey, as always, shows up to help. Overcoming the obstacles of Nicky's paranoia and blind fear, Mikey gets him out of the hotel where he has holed up, and starts to help him plan his escape; however, Nicky keeps changing the plan, and a hit man is hot on their trail. As they try to make their escape, the two friends have to confront issues of betrayal, regret, and the value of friendship versus self-preservation. The performances of Falk and Cassavetes make this much more than a gangster movie--it's a compelling portrait of human foibles, loyalty, and inner conflict.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseWidescreen - 1.85MonauralAdditional Release Material: Production Interview - 1.
