Kirk Douglas directs and stars as U.S. Marshal Howard Nightingale, a lawman with political aspirations who heads out to capture notorious bandit Jack Strawhorn (Bruce Dern) in hopes of garnering good press. The tables turn when Strawhorn takes Nightingale hostage and the Marshal's posse resorts to criminal acts to get the ransom money for his release. Billy is sent to prison, and David concocts a new scheme to do away with him once and for all, while Laura and kindly priest Father Juan must prove Billy's innocence before it's too late. DUELO EN EL DESIERTO was written by Rodolfo De Anda's father, Raul De Anda, who was himself a prolific screenwriter and producer in the Mexican film industry. The film also stars Fanny Cano, a popular actress in the 1960s and 1970s who died in a tragic plane crash.
