Kermit Maynard stars as Buck Sinclair, whose lease on his land is about to expire. His rival George Ringold (Sam Flint) will do whatever it takes to get his hands on the property, and to this end he hires Roberts (John Merton) and his crew of men to help him. Renowned and prolific Mexican director Raul de Anda directs his son Rodolfo in the remake of his classic melodrama SUCEDIO EN JALISCO. A young doctor returns after many years to his home town during the height of the Mexican Civil War, hoping to help the people of the village he left behind. While he was away, the local ranch passed into the hands of the rancher's lovely daughter, now more beautiful than the doctor remembered. He begins a romance with her, causing her powerful ranch hand to become insanely jealous. This shoot-'em-up revisionist Western traces the little-known legend of black cowboys in the Old West, who participated in settling the frontier and played an unrecognized role in U.S. history. Howard Hawks's final film once again teams him with John Wayne, with a script by Leigh Brackett (who also wrote his EL DORADO and RIO BRAVO). The time is just after the end of the Civil War. Wayne is Union Colonel Cord McNally, who is teamed with two Confederate soldiers he captured during the war in order to take down a thieving bootlegger. Their travels take them to a small town being held in terror by an evil Sheriff. McNally and his crew decide to help the townspeople with their own brand of justice.
