Monte Walsh (DVD)
The dawn of the twentieth century brings with it the prospect of great change. This exciting time was seen as a frightening infringement upon the range life of many cowboys. Monte Walsh (Tom Selleck) is one such ranch hand, a Wyoming rambler whose way of life is becoming obsolete. The industrialization and widening economic gap is leaving behind the likes of Monte and his companions, many of whom are ridin' fence, erecting physical boundaries to separate land owned by the rich and thereby eliminating the freedom of the vast wilderness.Based on Jack Schaefer's (SHANE) novel, this western (made for cable network TNT) is a languid, picturesque slice of life that mourns the existence of people on the fringe, an issue just as relevant today in this age of globalization. This version directed by Simon Wincer (LONESOME DOVE) follows a 1970 theatrical release based on the same novel which starred Lee Marvin.DVD Features:Region 1Snap CaseAnamorphic Widescreen - 1.85Single Side - Dual LayerAudio: Dolby Digital 5.1 - English

Seven friends, fresh out of Georgetown University, cope with the fears and realities of adulthood while drinking at their favorite hangout, St. Elmo's. Alex (Judd Nelson) and Leslie (Ally Sheedy) are career-minded and heading towards marriage. Virginal Wendy (Mare Winningham) only has eyes for wild, would-be rocker Billy (Rob Lowe)--whose wife and child don't prevent him from trying to relive his college days. Kevin (Andrew McCarthy) ponders the meaning of life and secretly desires Leslie, while his roommate Kirbo (Estevez) pursues an elusive older woman (Andie McDowell). Jules (Demi Moore) rounds out the group with her massive debts and cocaine problem. Joel Schumacher's twentysomething ensemble piece stands, for better or worse, as a revealing peek into the popular cinema--and values--of the 1980s. The film also represented a graduation of sorts, as Estevez, Sheedy, and Nelson portrayed high school students in John Hughes's THE BREAKFAST CLUB earlier in 1985.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseAnamorphic Widescreen - 2.35Audio: Dolby Digital 4.0 - English Dolby Digital 2.0 - French Dolby Digital 2.0 - Spanish Dolby Digital 2.0 - PortugueseAdditional Release Material: Audio Commentary - 1.
