This classic western stars Buster Crabbe as famed outlaw Billy the Kid. A wanted man, Billy partners up with Fuzzy Jones (Al St. John) and flees from Arizona with the help of local Rancher Ed Dawson (Hansel Warner). Billy agrees to return the favor by helping out on Warner's run-down Ranch, which is suffering the effects of a range war. In order to help Dawson, Billy will have to go up against the ranch's corrupt competitors, the gun-toting crooks of Double Box Ranch. This 1961 Western is Marlon Brando's only directorial effort. It's the Old West of 1880, and Brando stars as Kid Rio, who along with his partner, Dad Longworth (Karl Malden) are bank robbers who are caught holding up a Mexican bank. Longworth gets away and allows his partner to get caught and go to jail. When Rio is releases five years later, he goes out to seek revenge, however he is surprised to find his partner is married with a stepdaughter and sheriff of a town. OUT CALIFORNIA WAY provides satisfying western action in its film within a film. Monte Hale (Monte Hale), his sister Gloria (Lorna Gray, under the name Adrian Booth), and his friend Danny (BARETTA'S Robert Blake, under the name Bobby Blake), along with his horse Pardner, want to break into the Western movie business. They arrive at a set, where Pardner gets notice with his tricks and Monte gets to sing a few songs. After being cast as a singing cowboy, Monte thinks his career is on its way--but star George Sheridan (John Dehner) has other plans. Sheridan's jealousy of his new rival gets the better of him, and he creates a diversion sure to disrupt Monte and Pardner's roles. Notably, this Republic Studios film features appearances by Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, and Trigger, as well as RED RYDER actor Donald Barry and the voice of MR.
