Don Diego Vega, a young Spanish nobleman, watches with horror as the rich landowners mistreat their peons. The poor workers can get no restitution, for the corrupt government turns a blind eye to this cruelty. Finally, the outraged Vega devises a scheme to right the wrongs he sees: during the day he poses as a cowardly fop... but at night, he battles evil as the masked avenger, Zorro. Even though it`s silent, this film is generally regarded as one of Fairbanks` best swashbucklers. It set the stage for the subsequent Zorro films as well as the successful television series of the late 1950`s.
